New Client/First Meeting Checklist:

The dissolution of a marriage is a significant life changing event. A relationship that may have lasted years, if not decades, often takes years to unwind. When children are involved, the end of a marriage marks the beginning of new family relationships. Quite often, the changes are occurring so quickly that there is not enough time to process the information adequately.

Hiring an attorney to represent you in a family law matter is an important decision. We believe an effective family law attorney should be skilled in many different disciplines and will be just as concerned with your emotional well-being as your financial well-being.

When we meet for this first time, it is helpful to bring along the following information:

• Any divorce paperwork that you were already served with; OR, if you are already divorced, a copy of your final Divorce Decree, Property Settlement Agreement, and Custody Agreement or Parenting Plan.
• Your last 3 years' income tax returns, and your most recent year's W-2 form, if your return is not yet filed.
• Pay stubs for both parties showing year-to-date income and deductions.
• Mortgage statement on all home mortgages showing current balances due, and the amount of the monthly mortgage payment.
• Most recent statements on IRAs, 401-K and retirement plans.
• List of credit cards with balances.
• List of bank accounts.
• Evidence of day care expenses, and the cost of the health insurance premium for your children's and your family's coverage.
• Your spouse's social security number.
